After 1.5 years of colorful commentary from Marcus Vanderberg Black Voices' television coverage has entered a new phase. Going forward "BV on TV" will be the new home of all of our small screen- related coverage. Expect us to continue providing our unique perspective on television and the people and shows that make us watch (and cringe).

Clearly, we we all miss Marcus' witty and often controversial take on the boob tube. Not everybody hates Marcus, and we certainly don't.

We wish him well in his pursuits and look forward to taking "BV on TV" to even higher heights.

The fifth and final season of 'The Wire,' which is arguably the best television show on the air, returns to HBO on Sunday night.

Curious fans of the gritty drama have waited over a year to find out the resolution between Marlo and Omar and if McNulty falls off the sobriety wagon.

One of the most endearing characters from Season 4 is Bubbles, the homeless heroin addict who is portrayed by Andre Royo.

Bubbles took fans on a emotional roller coaster as we saw his relationship with young Sherrod before he ended up accidentally killing him and ending up in the rehab center.

What's planned for Bubbles in Sesason 5? Royo spills the dirt about his character on the show and who would win in the ultimate 'Wire' street fight.

Season 4 was big for Bubbles. We saw a lot of progress since Season 1. Will Bubbles ever become clean?

All the way? I don't know. I know I portray Bubbles but Bubbles was a real life character that was Ed Burns informant and we talked about his real life when he passed away. Was he ever fully clean? I don't know. Bubbles has to deal with living life without a specific purpose for the first time. Not trying to get high or trying to get money or ways to get high. It puts him in a different mind frame when he leaves the rehab center. It's a very depressing and spiritual journey where Bubbles has to find his purpose in life when he's not worried about trying to get high. Will that hold? Let's hope so.


What season of 'The Wire' was the best storyline for your character Bubbles?

I think the first season. When I got the part, they told me maybe seven episodes. They guaranteed seven but they weren't sure where the character was going from there. I'm playing this junkie informant and that's what they were going to use me for. In the first season, I started off that way but all of a sudden, my storyline spun off and removed itself from the cops and robbers. There was one statement that my friend Sonja [Sohn] who plays Kima that was really my motto in trying to stay clean. When I asked her for money because I wanted to stay clean in the first season, she said "What am I going to do with a clean snitch?" That resonated how this character in dealing with the police that is there to protect and serve, they were like we don't mind you getting high. We don't mind paying you to get high as long as we get the information that we need.

With such an amazing show, why do you think the ratings have been so low and why the lack of respect from the voting academy?

I have always had a problem with the ratings scale because they would judge Sunday at 9:00pm only. And our audience wasn't watching it Sunday. Anyone who had HBO knew they were going to replay it on Wednesday and replay it on Monday at 11pm. It came on at the same time during the basketball game. Our first season aired during the playoffs, so I would call my boys and they would be like I'm watching the Lakers vs. Kings, I will catch it on Wednesday. We couldn't get a true estimate of how many fans we had because people weren't watching it at that specific time. We are the highest ranking show on HBO On Demand. They were going to cancel us during the second season but when the first season came out on DVD, we sold 300,000 copies quickly. HBO found out we had an audience. They realized they couldn't judge that audience on the old school ratings techniques. As far as the Emmys are concerned, we just gave up as to why. There are a plethora of reasons why. We shoot in Baltimore and they say if you don't shoot in LA or NY, you are outside of the entertainment field. You have a storyline that is very complex and if the Emmy board, SAG, whoever might be, watch one or two episodes, they won't get it. You can't watch one or two episodes and get 'The Wire.'

Which of the following characters would win in a street fight? Marlo, Omar, String Bell, or Avon?

In a street fight, I would have to go with Marlo. He won't stop and there is nothing he won't do. Omar might not cheat. He has a code. Omar will take a break on Sunday. He might want to play basketball. Stringer Bell doesn't want to get his suit dirty. Avon will take a break on a Sunday too. Remember he said he couldn't shoot at Omar on a Sunday because it was against the code. Marlo doesn't have any of that. Whatever it takes.

Are we going to see conclusion between Marlo and Omar this season?

You are going to see something. That has to come to a climax. That story will be told and that question will be answered.

What is your favorite version of the theme song out of the last five seasons?

Personally, my favorite was the second season. I like that little beat it had to it. Second season was my favorite.

What's next for you in your career?

Right now, I am just enjoying being a dad. I'm just going to stay home and be a good daddy, take care of my wife. When you are shooting in Baltimore six months out of the year, you kind of miss home. I have a movie that's in Sundance with Josh Hartnett called August and I was doing a couple episodes of the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' but we had to stop because of the strike.

The writers strike is now entering its third month and you are probably wondering what's the status of your favorite television show.

If you are a fan of the late night talk shows, you're in luck as all your favorites (Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc.) return tonight.

But as for the sitcoms, the number of new episodes are starting to dwindle.

Below is an update on a handful of television shows, including the CW's 'The Game' and 'Girlfriends.' For a complete list, you can check out TV Guide.

Boston Legal: Fourteen episodes will be produced. Ten episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Desperate Housewives: Ten episodes will be produced. Nine episodes have aired, so there is one left.

MTV's equivalent of 'I Love New York' is getting a spinoff series.

'A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila,' which saw record ratings (6.2 million viewers) for the network during its season finale on Tuesday, will have an upcoming spinoff that features Domenico Nesci called 'Amore.'

If you don't know the name, he was the Italian guy who was born and raised in Milan.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Nesci will be looking for an "American sweetheart" from among 15 bachelorettes who will vie to win his heart and travel to Italy to meet his mother.

'Amore' is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. Sundays starting March 2.

All I want for Christmas is the writers strike to end.

That way, we can get shows like 'Clash of the Choirs' off my television set.

This four-night singing event is luckily almost over, and NBC can go back to repeats of "The Office" and "30 Rock."

Hell, I'll even take "Celebrity Apprentice" at this rate.

Five C-level singers (Even you, Ms. Patti) assemble choirs from their respective hometowns to compete for $250,000, which will be donated to a charity of their choice.

'Clash of the Choirs' is too nice.


There is no drama.

No suspense.

All the singers, which serves as the "judges" as well, give the same repetitive kind comments.

And if I have to look at Kelly Rowland and her tired ass weave for one more night or Michael Bolton and his chest hair, I'm going to scream.

The show is suppose to be uplifting but it has just turned me into a total grouch.

If you actually care who is going to win the "competition," tune in tomorrow night on NBC at 8:00PM.

E! Entertainment Television is clearly wrapped up in the spirit of giving, because the network gave Snoop Dogg his own television show.

Sunday marks the debut of 'Snoop Dogg's Father Hood' at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on E!

However, for those of you were expecting a reality show from Snoop should read the fine print.

It's not a reality show, but a "reality comedy."



The word comedy implies that the show is scripted.

Scripts + Reality shows = Not so much comedy.

Don't get it twisted, I love the Snoop D-O-Double-Dizzle.

But as for the show ... eh.

Snoop could have gone the variety show route with his wife and three kids, because after watching 'Sensual Seduction,' it's clear the acting skills are there.

Actually, she's a moron.

But Pickler ran into a roadblock when the questions became slightly more difficult.

If you're like myself, you have noticed that the major networks are running out of new episodes due to the strike between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

Desperate times call for desperate measures for your nightly television fix, which is how I came across 'Frank TV.'

Granted, the 50,000 commercials during the MLB Playoffs on TBS helped me remember this comedy sketch show was set to premiere.

Comedian Frank Caliendo, best known for his dead-on impersonations, was a regular on the late night sketch show 'Mad TV' for five seasons.



Now he has his own show (Tuesday's at 11pm), where he performs sketches in full makeup to go along with the characters he's impersonates.

NFL legend John Madden is probably one of his best impersonations, however my new favorite is his Charles Barkley.

The clip below is Caliendo on 'Inside the NBA' on TNT where he shows off his Barkley impersonation for the NBA Hall of Famer.

Apologies in advance if you find yourself saying "turrible" after watching the clip...

Oh how the (not so) mighty have fallen.

American Idol Season 4 finalist Jessica Sierra was arrested (again) over the weekend.

But besides from another hideous mugshot, Sierra provided us with two gems.

According to TMZ.com, Sierra told the officer that arrested her: "I'll suck your d*** if you don't take me to jail."

That would have to be one helluva blowjob in order for the officer to release Sierra, who was arrested in Florida for causing a disturbance (ie: really drunk).

Somebody should have put something in Sierra's mouth however, as she later went on to use the N word several times, saying, "F*** you N*****!"

She's been charged with disorderly intoxication and violation of parole -- and obstruction of justice.

And the "N-Word" continues to have the best year ever.

For all you pigskin fans hoping for a performance that would top the one of Prince last year. don't get your hopes up.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is your halftime entertainment this year.

As if watching the Patriots destroy the Cowboys won't be boring enough.

But now you are asking NFL fans to sit through a 20-minute performance of a stale rock group that hasn't been hot since the '80s.

And if you are looking to blame someone for this - you can point the blame at Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson.

Because of "nipple-gate," the NFL has decided to go with these "classic" artists who won't go out and pull a fast one over on the networks.

Not that Prince didn't try last year though (see picture).

HBO Films is planning on turning the best selling book 'Game of Shadows' about MLB slugger Barry Bonds into a movie.

Lance Williams, a reporter at the San Francisco Chronicle, said that Ron Shelton has been tapped to direct the flick and will co-write the script with "Tin Cup" partner John Norville once the Hollywood writers strike is settled.

Williams co-wrote 'Game of Shadows' along with former Chronicle sportswriter Mark Fainuru-Wada.

The book recounts how Bonds allegedly began using steroids in 1999 after becoming jealous of Mark McGwire setting Major League Baseball's single season home run mark the previous season.
In case you are a Bonds fan who is on the fence on whether the all-time home run leader took steroids or not, reading 'Game of Shadows' will leave little doubt in your mind when you're done with it.

But the real question is, who should play Barry Bonds?

If Blair Underwood were willing to shave his head, i think he could be a close match.

Granted, nobody's head is close to being the size of Bonds.

Rapper 50 Cent is ready to show the world.

On a special episode of MTV's 'Cribs' on Thursday, 50 Cent is showing off his pad before he sells it.

The Farmington, Conn. mansion was formally owned by boxer Mike Tyson.

The massive 19-bedroom property i includes a nightclub with a swing dangling from the ceiling for some of his wilder parties and is 48,000 square-feet.

"I like the look of an Architectural Digest," 50 said of his designing style. "There's a lot of good living going on, and it ain't based (on) the actual money that's being spent, it's the choices that people make. You don't have to buy a $50 million home to build a lifestyle that's equivalent."

If you have never been to Farmington, Conn. before, you aren't missing much.

Things continue to spiral for Oprah Winfrey.

On top of everything that has happened to the talk show mogul, now comes a report in Page Six that a gentleman is threatening to publish a expose about her company, Harpo.

Keifer Bonvillain, 37, who touts himself as a Louisiana-born "civil-rights activist," has launched a Web site in a bid to get a publisher for his exposé, titled "Ruthless."

Bonvillain claims that he has audio tapes of a Harpo employee speaking freely about Oprah's private life and business affairs.

According to his pitch: "Keifer Bonvillain underestimated one of the world's most powerful women when he, armed with clandestinely recorded tapes, decided to write a 'tell-all' book unmasking the famed celebrity. Within days of Harpo learning about the book, two men were attempting to break into Keifer's home - presumably to get the tapes. Oprah was desperate to keep the truth from being revealed . . . The fallout was Keifer's highly publicized arrest."

This is not the first time Bonvillain has gone after Oprah.

Last year he was charged with federal extortion after he allegedly tried to sell Winfrey audiotapes for $1.5 million of a high-ranking Harpo employee bad-mouthing her. The charges didn't hold up in an Illinois court.

I was listening to Jim Rome this morning when comedian Jay Mohr, who was filling in, mentioned he had a clip of a two-legged dog on Montel.

I thought he was kidding.

Clearly, there is no such thing as a two-legged dog.

And if there was one, it sure wouldn't be on Montel Williams.

Wrong and wrong.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for my legs!

It looks like the writers strike is having an impact in the upcoming presidential election.

Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have both pledged they will not participate in a scheduled CBS presidential debate in Los Angeles on Dec. 10.

The reason for pulling out?

The potential strike by the writers at CBS, who have been working without a contract since 2005.

"The workers at CBS News have been without a contract for close to two-and-a-half years. It is my hope that both sides will reach an agreement that results in a secure contract for the workers at CBS News, but let me be clear: I will honor the picket line if the workers at CBS News decide to strike," Clinton said in a statement. "America's unions are the backbone of America's middle class, and I will always stand with America's working men and women in the fight to ensure that they are able to earn a fair wage."


Obama's campaign added: "If CBS News is unable to reach an agreement with its workers and they decide to strike, Barack Obama will not cross the picket line to attend the debate."

As if the strike by the Writers Guild wasn't bad enough, we could be looking at a second strike on our hands.

Katie Couric is awful with writers on the CBS Evening News - just wait until she is on camera trying to wing it.

So much for that interview with Larry King.

Dr. Jan Adams walked off the set of 'Larry King Live' on Tuesday night, hours after Dr. Donda West was laid to rest in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Adams received a letter from attorneys representing the West family asking Adams not to appear on the show.

"When they're comfortable, then I'll be comfortable. If they're never comfortable, then I'll never be comfortable," Adams said, referring to West's family. "They are what's important to me. I said that from the start and that's what I'll continue to honor."

Adams took off the earpiece, shook King's hand and walked off the set.

Talk about a tease.

Needless to say, this story is far from over.
