This week during the Cannes Film Festival in Paris, filmmaker James Toback will unveil his new documentary, "Tyson," an in-depth look at the life of Mike Tyson. The film contains segments from over 30 hours of interviews with the former champ, plus highlights and lowlights from his career.

"I look at it now and I'm embarrassed I did it," Tyson told the New York Times. "There's a lot of information people didn't need to know. I don't know who I am. That might sound stupid. I really have no idea. All my life I have been drinking and drugging and partying and all of a sudden this comes to a stop. I never thought I would live to this age."

The film will not only talk about the successes the soon to be 42-year old Mike Tyson had in his career, but also his marriage and bitter divorce from actress Robin Givens, his three-year prison sentence for rape and his squandering of 400 million dollars on his way to bankruptcy. Tyson's drug abuse is also looked at in the film, but he's currently been clean for 15 months and is looking to get his life straight and narrow. There's no word on when the film will be hitting theaters in the states, but it said to be a powerful film.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.
If you haven't heard by now, Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens will be making his sitcom acting debut tonight on the Flavor Flav-starred show "Under One Roof." The show will air on MyNetworkTV at 8 p.m. EST. For his appearance, Owens plays a forgotten brother of Flav who shows up unannounced to the house with what seems like ulterior motives other than catching up with family. The network has been getting Owens to make the rounds to sports websites to promote the show. In an interview with USA Today's Game On! Blog, Owens said that acting is something he will try to take up in the future.

"I think I can act and I want to pursue it when my football days are over. I had never done anything extensive acting at all," Owens said. "This was the first time I ever played a character outside of myself. It is very competitive and parallel to football. Sometimes you have things scripted and then you go out there and things don't go your way or the way you planned them. You just have to go with it. The show was a lot of fun and she saw something with me that I didn't see in myself."

In an interview with ESPN's Sam Alipour, Owens turned the topic to football and talked briefly about his team bringing in Adam "Pacman" Jones and possibly looking at acquiring in Chad Johnson.

"Oh, man. You know what? It's double trouble. And that sounds like a negative, but it's double trouble in a positive sense," Owens said. "We got one of the two, but if you bring both of those guys in? Pacman's going to bring a lot of defensive presence at the cornerback position, and he brings an added spark with his return ability. And if we add Chad? Oh my god. Chad on one side and me on the other? It's like, dude, who you going to cover? And we got Jason Witten? And we got Marion the Barbarian [Barber]? I mean, geez, pencil us in for the Super Bowl."

It's hard disagree with that, but it'll be fun to watch Wade Phillips try to handle the multiple egos.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.

As if LeBron James isn't busy enough worrying about the Boston Celtics, he's teamed up with Cub Cadet to find the coolest looking trick shot. The Trick Shot Challenge is calling on basketball fans to film their best trick shot and upload it to http://www.lebronstrickshotchallenge.com by June 28 for a chance to win a one-on-one game against King James and get $5,000 worth of Cub Cadet lawn equipment. Huh? Yeah, Cub Cadet sells lawn mowers, log splitters, leaf blowers and a bunch of other stuff that has nothing to do with basketball.

"I see layups, fade away jumpers and slam dunks night in and night out, but now I'm teaming up with Cub Cadet to find the craziest trick shot out there," James said in a statement. "I hope everyone gets the chance to enter this contest and I can't wait to see what I'm up against!"

For those of you who live in Manhattan, Chicago, or any other city where they don't have lawns, just open up an eBay account in case you win.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor. He's not the type to go off to the club, make it rain, and then get pulled over on the way home. He's a family man with a work ethic that shows on the field. An alumnus of the University of North Carolina, Bly was drafted by the St Louis Rams in 1999 where he played for four years, winning a Super Bowl. In 2003, Bly signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent and made the Pro Bowl twice.

When he joined the Broncos last season after a trade, Bly became part of the best two-corner tandem in the league alongside Champ Bailey. Of course, the season didn't go as he hoped with the team finishing 7-9. BV caught up with Bly to see how he's spending his offseason, what his foundation has been up to, what it's like to be a part of Team Jordan, and if he ever got over getting beaten by Greg Jennings and the Green Bay Packers on an 82-yard game-winning touchdown in that stunning overtime loss on Monday Night Football.

How have you been spending your offseason?

I just got back from vacationing a little bit. We started the offseason program on Monday so I'm back to work. I had two months to enjoy myself, travel and do some things and now it's back to work.

Where did you get to go?

I went to Turks & Caicos, that's in the Caribbean. I went there for a week. I went to Vegas for the Super Bowl. I went to New Orleans for the NBA All-Star Game. I went to North Carolina a couple of times to catch a few basketball games. So I got to travel a little bit.

What else do you like to do in your free time? Movies? Music?

I'm not really a big movie guy; I watch them with my wife. Music, I'm not a big music guy; I listen to whatever comes on <st1:address><st1:street>Suite</st1:street> 62</st1:address> on XM Radio. I'm an R&B guy; all I listen to is R&B. I'm kind of too old for that rap. My teammates tease me all the time because I don't know any of that new music. If it doesn't come on the radio or <st1:address><st1:street>Suite</st1:street> 62</st1:address>, I don't know it. I got to hear it a few times before it grows on me. But most of the time, I'll be with my family, my kids; they're very active in sports so most of my extra time is devoted towards my kids.

At 30, you aren't THAT old. Didn't you listen to Dr. Dre or Snoop from back in the day?

Oh yeah! But I don't listen to that no more. I really don't, I'm keeping it real! I listen to R&B. I don't buy music anymore and like I said, if it doesn't come on <st1:address><st1:street>Suite</st1:street> 62</st1:address>, I don't know much about it.

What is the Dre Bly Foundation about?

Basically my foundation is devoted towards kids. I grew up in an educational household. My mother and father taught grade school for 30 years, my sister is a biology teacher in high school. I grew up being around kids a lot, and my family having love for other kids, so that's what I studied when I went to school. I majored in sports science, which is in that same field in terms of dealing with kids and stuff like that. My foundation is me having a chance to give back and that's one thing as a kid I really didn't have a chance to do was interact with professional athletes or someone I looked up to. Just having a chance to give back, adopting middle schools and having a chance to go there and interact with the kids, letting them know they can fulfill their dreams. A lot of those kids think that what I do for a living is not reachable. It might be hard, but for me I dedicated myself and everything I did was directed towards being where I am today. I stayed focused and that's the reason why I was able to make it as far as I did, that's what my foundation is directed towards. I adopted a middle school here in Denver, Place Middle School, the first day we had an assembly and I announced that I was adopting the school and I let the kids know I was going to be here all year. I started a tutoring program for the school which was devoted to kids needing extra help, every Tuesday and Thursday for the entire school year. And I awarded the kids who did well and made progress during the season by giving out 25 tickets to every Bronco home game. During Thanksgiving I gave the kids the opportunity to sign up for Thanksgiving dinner and it gave me a chance to give kids turkeys and side dishes. That's what my foundation does. I just do it out of the kindness of my heart and try to reach out to the kids in the inner-city.

You also host a golf tournament in North Carolina. What's that about?

Back in Chapel Hill not very many football players comeback, not since Mack Brown, who was my college coach, left Carolina. We have a great tradition football-wise at North Carolina, but when people think of Carolina they think of basketball so no one has really done anything to reach out to those guys. It was a success the first year. Last year I invited the mother and father of Jason Ray, the North Carolina mascot who passed away, to the event and I invited a tutor from Carolina who had like five or six kidney transplants, and they had a foundation for her. She had a chance to interact with some of the athletes and that's basically what my event is - I invite Carolina athletes to come back, play some golf and have a good weekend.

So you're throwing it again this year?

This year it's going down on May 16 and 17. We're going to have a casino night, on Friday night it'll be at the press box of the North Carolina football field. We'll have play money and the top two people with chips at the end of the night win a plasma TV and we have other nice stuff to auction off. Last year we had a great time. It went from like <st1:time hour="18" minute="0">6</st1:time> to <st1:time minute="30" hour="21">9:30pm</st1:time> and it was a great turnout. Then we golfed the next day, which we'll do again this year. Then I'll do my birthday party that night, but for the most part, it's to get those athletes back to Carolina. We're the guys that paved the way for the guys that are there now. So to give those guys a chance to interact with some of the guys there now, that's how you keep a family growing and to keep things a success.

You and the Denver Broncos reworked your contract so you'll get to stay with the team a little bit and get to play another season with Champ Bailey. How has that experience been?

It's good because in Detroit, me being the focus of the defense, it was the other guy in secondary they would pick on. But now having an all-pro guy and future Hall of Famer on the other side, someone who has been successful; it raises the play of the entire defense. He's the humblest dude that I've ever been around, with the amount of success that he's had in this league, he's just the humblest guy I've ever been around. We came in the league the same year and we've became good friends before I came to Denver because we made the Pro Bowl together as starters my first year in Detroit. Plus you're pretty familiar with the guys that play your same position, especially if you came out the same year. Even in college we were at the All-American banquets together so we've kind of known each other over the years. Then when I got traded here last offseason, he found out before I did. I didn't even know I was traded and he called me and told me I was traded. Everything has been good, even though last season didn't work out as a team for us. But secondary-wise we feel we're among the best in this league and there's no other tandem of corners that have done what we've done in this league, intercepting balls and having the success that we did. Last year didn't go the way we planned but this year we're going to get back to the Denver team you're used to seeing with the guys making plays on defense. We're going to make a lot of plays and we're pretty excited about that.

That's good because some of those teams were picking on you a little bit last season. On national television even.

What we do for a living, and everybody knows this as hard as you play, people are going to complete passes. There's no corner out there that's going to keep a guy from catching a pass. You know Brett Favre, he's a Hall of Famer, and he's going to make plays. But like I said, you're not going to make a living doing that. Green Bay may have been my toughest game last year. There's going to be a couple of times where I'll get beat but the organization was happy with what I was able to do last year and I was happy with what I was able to come in and do last year. Considering with what all went down, I led the team in interceptions. And if you look at it, we're still amongst the top as far as defending receiving yards. Like I say, anyone is going to give up a pass or two, or give up a touchdown ... it happens.

Yeah, I'm sure it's tough because both you and Champ get tagged with the "shutdown corner" title, and the expectation becomes huge. It's as if no one will ever be able to get a pass completed against you.

Yeah, them guys get paid just like we do, and you can't make a living doing that. No one did that last year. Last year Brett was able to complete a pass on Champ and then he got me. Of course, mine had to be the winning touchdown in overtime for the game, but hey, it happens. What we do for a living, you have to have a short-term memory and get over it. Nobody is perfect and if you look at my whole career, or anyone's career, no one has made a living off of doing stuff like that. I've been successful at making plays from the first day I've played football until the last. It happened but like I told you, my team was happy with what me and Champ were able to do last year as a tandem; it didn't properly go as they planned and defensively we've had some struggles. Besides Elvis Dumerveil, We really didn't have any stability on the defensive line, they were shuffling guys in and out so, not to make excuses but plays were made and that happens.

You're in the middle of your spring workouts now, what does that consist of?

We have pretty good attendance here; we go five or four days a week, so if you miss a day you can make it up. For most of the guys they have clauses in their contracts where they get bonuses if they make 90 percent of their workouts. We got great attendance and our offseason workout is pretty strong. They really get it out of us in the offseason. It's consistent running and lifting weights everyday.

What's your role with Team ?

[Team ] only picks a select few guys, they don't try to get everybody but after I made the Pro Bowl the second time, that was my key to get in and the fact that I went to Carolina like Mike. I advertise their stuff, they invite me to their events and I go. For the most part, they don't want knuckleheads. They don't want guys getting in trouble and in the media for negative things. They want good guys because Mike was a good guy and that's what I am. Football players don't get much advertisement, there's only a select few guys who advertise products in football. LaDainian Tomlinson is with Nike; actually I was talking with Champ today about that because he's with Nike and they don't really advertise him. How can you not advertise a guy who has been to the Pro Bowl eight times and has had the success that he's had? But football-wise, we don't get the shoe deals like basketball players and they're not big money deals for the most part. It's mostly the perks and the merchandise that comes with deals. I have no complaints with my deal, I'm happy; they take good care of me. There's actually a lot of guys that want to be on Brand and a lot of guys can't. So I make the most of it, I cherish it,

So do you have any ventures or businesses outside of football?

I have a big workout facility that I'm starting back home, but other than that, it's early and I don't want to talk too much about that. But I told myself I was going to wait until I retire before I get too deeply involved in anything. As an athlete, a lot of guys go sour because they invest and do some things, and trust people and don't really have the time to follow up with it. So I didn't want to be one of those guys. So I told myself that I'm going to keep stacking my money, wait till I retire and then try to venture out and do other things.

. Of course, the season didn't go as he hoped with the team finishing 7-9. BV caught up with Bly to see how he's spending his offseason, what his foundation has been up to, what it's like to be a part of Team Jordan, and if he ever got over getting beaten by Greg Jennings and the Green Bay Packers on an 82-yard game-winning in that stunning overtime loss on Monday Night Football.

[Team Jordan ] only picks a select few guys, they don't try to get everybody but after I made the Pro Bowl the second time, that was my key to get in and the fact that I went to Carolina like Mike.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.
R&B superstar Usher has teamed up with the WNBA's Atlanta Dream to serve his nonprofit organization, New Look. For four years, New Look has been hosting camps for teens in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Cleveland and Milwaukee in an effort to empower youth by giving them skills for careers in the sports and entertainment industries. The partnership with the Dream now offers teens a chance to be able to intern with the team, giving them the experience to work within a professional basketball organization which offers experience in sports management, player development and game day operations and marketing.

"I'm extremely excited about Camp New Look's partnership with the Atlanta Dream, and look forward to witnessing how this new partnership motivates our young people to even greater heights," Usher said. "We wanted to do something extra special for our students, and I'm happy that the Atlanta Dream have provided an avenue for our young entrepreneurs to attain real life experience."

Usher and New Look previously had an internship program with the NHL. The Atlanta Dream is an expansion WNBA team who will tip-off their first game on May 23 against the Detroit Shock.

Companies were dropping him from endorsement contracts and Nike, who had just signed the Laker to an agreement, put him on the shelf.

But now in 2008 Kobe has regained his "marketing mojo", as our friend Darren Rovell of CNBC put it.

He's having a stellar season on the court and getting named the MVP made his market value shoot up.

The resurgence started last year Kobe Bean appeared on the cover of the Sony video game, NBA '07. Then this year he signed with Coca-Cola to endorse Vitaminwater alongside Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard and LeBron James. Their first ad together appears in last week's issue of Sports Illustrated. Plus Nike took him off the shelf to promote his new shoe, plus the Hyperdunks he was sporting when he "jumped" over an Aston Martin and will later wear during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

And according to Rovell, Wheaties is possibly considering putting Bryant on the front of the cereal box in the near future. He still has deals with Upper Deck and Gameloft (cell phone games), but we're expecting more deals to come Kobe's way.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.
Maxim Magazine will be coming out with their Hot 100 list this month, their list of the hottest 100 women in the public eye. What does that have to do with Derek Jeter? Well, according to Florida's Sun Sentinel, six of his ex-girlfriends are on that list. In most cases, getting six out of 100 isn't a very good statistic, but in this case, it's probably any man's dream come true. Who are these ladies?

Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Minnillo, Gabrielle Union, and Jessica Alba all appear on the Hot 100 list and have all at one point or another been on the arm of the mighty Derek Jeter. Both Biel and Johansson will place somewhere in the top 10.

Of course if Jeter wanted to get back with any of them, it might be a bit too late. Carey just married Nick Cannon. Alba is pregnant with her and her man's, Cash Warren, first child. Johansson recently announced her engagement with actor Ryan Reynolds. Minnillo has been kicking it with Nick Lachey and Biel has been on Justin Timberlake's arm. Union is recently divorced, however, and is most likely available. Jeter is pretty single right now too.

But A-Rod's wife says that he's not very helpful when it comes to the labor and giving birth part. In an upcoming episode of YES Network's "YESterdays", Cynthia said that Alex was a shell of himself when their first daughter, Natasha Alexander, was born.

"And really, I am not being paid much attention to besides the doctor and a couple of nurses. And he is there moaning. In between pushing, I am going, 'Honey, are you OK?' and 'Are you breathing? Are you OK?'"

The couple first daughter was born on November 18, 2004. They have been married for five years after meeting in a gym in Miami.
"As tough and big as he seems, he is real wimpy around doctors or any type of medical situation," Cynthia continued. "I don't know why I thought the birth of our child would be different. In the middle of the night, I realized that I needed to go to the hospital. I wake him up. The first thing that comes out of his mouth: 'Can we call your mother?' ... A few hours later, I said, 'I think you can call my mom now.' Uh, and the color came back to his face when I told him he could call my mom."

"I was worried about that because I like to eat, so far that hasn't happened," Ali said. "I've been spinning, not too strenuously, walking and doing some Pilates to keep in shape through the pregnancy. I've been blessed to have this easy pregnancy."

Ali also talked up the new season of American Gladiators, the new location and the new games. The new season starts on May 12 on NBC with Ali co-hosting with Hulk Hogan.

"We have a new venue, the Sports Arena, and the games all fit within the space now, and more room mean there is less breaking down sets and building, so it goes quicker," she said. "There is Tilt, and Vertigo, two of the new games I can mention."

And for those wondering, she still has no plans to step back into the boxing ring.

Lakers are in the midst of their round two series in the NBA Playoffs, but in the back of his mind he's looking forward to the summer as well. Odom is planning going full steam ahead with his record label Rich Soil Entertainment this summer with the release of Ali Vegas' debut album, Generation Gap 2: The Prequel, an album a few years in the making. The album will hit stores in August featuring production from DJ Premier, Scott Storch, Cool & Dre, and Midi Mafia with appearances from Akon, Styles P and singer Deemi.

"One of my focuses was to get Ali Vegas the best music because that seems to be what captures people's ear automatically," Odom recently told AllHipHop.com. "And [I'll] just let Veg do the rest. He's playing at a high skill level. The faith that we got in him is just... I mean I think he could take off right where Jay-Z and Nas left off. I think he's that talented."

The album will come out in a partnership with Asylum Records. Ali Vegas, at only 24 years old, is a sort of veteran of the rap game, first stepping on the scene as a teenager in the late 90's and early 2000's. While signed to Columbia, he recorded an album that was never released and then fell into the underground hip-hop scene where he's been hustling mixtapes for the last several years. Looking Vegas' situation, Odom decided to try to make a move and see if he could do what other record labels couldn't do and make Ali Vegas a superstar.

"I always been close to rap music, because of Ali," Odom said. "When I got traded, I just started to get visions and ideas because of the star power that the Lakers have and because Ali is so great at what he does. I just got all these ideas, all these visions, and I just kinda thought, 'Maybe I should do it myself.' So I just put the right people, just found the right people to put around myself. It's something that I wasn't afraid to fail at, at all. I guess not being afraid to fail let me know that I can get this done."

Let's see if Odom and the Lakeshow can hold off the Utah Jazz first!

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.
Even though 49ers' linebacker Manny Lawson tore his ACL last season, that won't stop him from running for the "Run for Something Better" program which fights childhood obesity and promotes a healthy lifestyle for youth. On Thursday, May 15 Lawson will join about 1,500 kids from San Francisco's Unified School District for the ING Run for Something Better Kids' 4K run at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park.

"As a professional athlete, I believe that leading a healthy lifestyle and staying in shape at a young age can lead to a long, healthy life," Lawson said in a statement. "By supporting the ING Run for Something Better program, I hope to encourage thousands of children in the Bay area to embrace physical activity and work towards setting their own personal fitness goals."

Lawson will be wearing a pair of ING's signature orange shoelaces during the run; which is a few days before the May 18 ING Bay to Breakers 12K. These laces are given out to program supporters who make a charitable contribution to the ING Run for Something Better. ING's orange laces and more info about the program are available at www.orangelaces.com.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.
There's nothing like the offseason, where professional athletes get to dabble in hobbies and careers that they've always been interested in. This time it's New England Patriot's Randy Moss and his fascination with NASCAR. The baller announced that he will put together a Moss Motorsports team in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series, according to Fox Sports. Even though Moss doesn't have a driver, manufacturer, or any sponsors, he's trying to put together the team this racing season, so it can race the full 2009 season.

"There are a lot of NASCAR fans in the locker room," Moss said in a statement to Fox Sports. "We've seen a lot of football players get involved - guys like Dan Marino and Troy Aikman, to name a couple. I think it's a good fit and gives some of the companies I am already working with an additional outlet. It's a smart move on the marketing side of things, but on the personal side of things, I think it's going to be a lot of fun."

Back home in West Virginia, Moss sponsors a local dirt track program and he's the goodwill ambassador for the Urban Youth Racing School, which operates out of Philly; so it's not a surprising venture for him. Moss and his crew are already in the process of making things happen.

"We know it takes time to build a team from the ground up, and we have some good people working with us to get that process started," Moss said. "We are talking to the manufacturers, and we're already evaluating some drivers.

"Eventually I'd like to be able to have our team work with some of the young guys that are working hard to make it up the ladder, but right now it might make more sense to find a driver with a lot of experience to get us started. But we really don't have anyone in mind. We'll look at who is available and find someone that can help us compete and win as quickly as we can."

First comes the nice big NFL contract, and then comes the big nice check from a shoe company along with a bunch of free gear. Both Nike and Reebok were busy this past weekend at the 2008 NFL Draft signing rookies to endorsement deals. Nike was able to get nine of the top 11 draft picks of the first round including Miami Dolphins' #1 overall pick Jake Long (OT), St Louis Rams' #2 overall pick Chris Long (DE) and the #4 overall pick Darren McFadden (RB) (pictured above) who went to the Oakland Raiders.

McFadden's deal with Nike is said to be possibly worth more than Vikings' Adrian Peterson's deal he signed with the company in 2007, according to Sporting News. It's a four year "head-to-toe" deal where everything McFadden will be wearing is Nike except for team and NFL issued gear, which has a deal with Reebok.

Speaking of Reebok, they signed Ravens QB pick Joe Flacco, Giants pick S Kenny Phillips and new Panthers linebacker Dan Connor to multi-year endorsement deals.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

SPONSORED BY: BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD Step behind the curtain at Ford Motor.

Since Jay-Z's New Jersey (soon to be Brooklyn) Nets missed the playoffs, the rapper has most likely been watching his boy LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers' series against the Washington Wizards. And for anyone who has been watching the series knows about the trash talking going back and forth. It started with Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson calling LeBron overrated and then LeBron saying for him to respond to that is like Jay-Z responding to a Soulja Boy diss.

To shove it in LeBron's face, Stevenson invited Soulja Boy to Game 3, where he sat courtside and watched the Wizards take care of business. But after the Cavs defeated the Wiz yesterday to take a 3-1 series lead, a Jay-Z freestyle over Too Short's "Blow The Whistle" instrumental surfaced that refers to the LeBron-DeShawn beef and without mentioning Stevenson by name, Jigga tells dude to back off and know his place.

What hurts even more is that, according to the Washington Post, the diss song was played at a D.C. night club called Love, yes, a club in the Wizards' hometown. Cavs guard Damon Jones was also at the club, grabbed the mic and joined in the dissing. But just like Jigga Man himself, Stevenson is brushing the song off his shoulder.

"He says he has a lot of swag, but I don't think that's something to do," Stevenson told the Washington Post about James. "This is basketball. I'm not worried about the song. I'm not worried about what he did. But for Damon Jones to get on the mic. And I heard he was saying foul stuff about me and stuff like that, they're taking it beyond basketball to me. Everybody is saying the bad things that I'm saying nationally, but they don't understand why I'm mad. That stuff doesn't come out. I'd rather be the bad guy. People think I'm going at him, but they don't see the little stabs that he's doing.

"When I had Soulja Boy here, it was on the court," Stevenson continued. "It was nothing disrespecting him or his family or even foul language. Jay-Z is a legend. He'll go down in history. No disrespect to Jay-Z. I take it as a compliment. I like his music. I like everything he does. I would never go at a legend."

Listen to the song:

San Diego Chargers' LaDainian Tomlinson and his wife LaTorsha announced that they'll be hosting the inaugural Night of Nights Gala presented by the Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation on June 7. The proceeds from the event will support cardiovascular services at PPH, including the Dial, Don't Drive campaign, the Cardiac Alert Program and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

"My family has been directly affected by diseases such as diabetes, obesity and stroke," Tomlinson recently said in a statement. "It's a personal mission and passion of mine to reduce health issues plaguing our community by raising awareness and improving access to quality care. The Night of Nights Gala presents a unique opportunity to bring people together for the specific purpose of fulfilling the health care needs of our community."

The night will feature "celebrity entertainment" and an auction at $250 per person. Last year, Tomlinson signed a five-year contract with the Palomar Pomerado Health district in San Diego to help with fundraising, health care campaigns and recruitment. According to San Diego's Union Tribune, under the contract, Tomlinson receives $300,000 a year from the district and $100,000 a year from the district's foundation. Huh, not bad eh?

So for a kid who just last month was probably eating Ramen Noodles in a dorm room to possibly eating lobster and shrimp in September, how do they make the right decisions on what to do with their money so they don't end up broke at the end of their career?

Tanya Marchiol is the CEO and owner of Team Investments Inc. (www.teaminvestmentsinc.com) a real estate and consulting company that helps rookies and pro athletes early in their career take care of their money and learn how to make the right choices when it comes to investments and spending. Marchiol has worked with everyone from Jamarcus Russell to Donovan McNabb and has a couple if clients in this year's draft including projected top three pick, Glen Dorsey.

We caught up with Marchiol before she jetted to NYC for the NFL Draft to talk about what she does for the athletes, what kind of advice she gives for handling money, what athletes buy that make her cringe and her book about being prosperous.

So what exactly do you do for these NFL rookies?

Originally, what I started out with was strictly real estate, so for my rookies coming up, what I do is I go around the country, no matter where they go, no matter what team they're traded to or picked up by and find them their personal family home. That was truly the basis of Team Investments. It has since in the past ten years merged into so much more. Now what we do is really, the first thing we do is make sure our client's credit is really where it should be. A lot of times, it really is just the guys haven't established any credit. Because you're in college you don't know what you're doing and you may pay your electric bill or your phone bill, but you don't have a lot of bills so your credit really isn't established. So whether we're establishing or repairing, it doesn't matter, we really take credit and teach you how to leverage your money with your credit because obviously if you have good credit you can do so much more than if you don't. So that's the first thing we do. The second thing we do, we establish their corporations and we establish all of our corporations out of Delaware.

Corporations? What does this do?

What this does is three things: One it gives them complete anonymity in any assets that they have, whether it be a car, a house, it doesn't matter; everything is put under their LLC. Two, it gives them tax benefits. Now instead of just being paid on a W-2, they really are running their life like a business, all of their expenses, all of their dinners, all of their travel, all of their houses, all of their cars, everything that they do now goes into their LLC. This establishes running their life like a business and having the tax benefits. Then three, it really gives them more protection, because you have complete anonymity, let's say you have a house in California that you're not at but when you're in season and a postman comes up and slips on your driveway and tries to sue you. If your house is the only thing in that LLC, that's all they can sue for, they can't sue you personally. So it establishes protections, it establishes tax benefits and it establishes complete anonymity. So we really do that as well. Then we deal with their personal family homes and in their personal family homes, and it doesn't matter if you want a house for your mom, whether you want a house in your hometown or whether you want a house where you're playing. A lot of times we don't push to buy where you play.

Yeah, because it's not guaranteed that they'll be playing there their whole career, right?

It kind of just depends. There a lot of guys, say like in the Bay Area, that might just sign a one-year deal and it's not beneficial for them to buy there because it's so expensive. One of the things is teaching them when to buy and when to rent. It's not always about buying a house; it's truly about being smart and leveraging your money. I always say rent if you have to rent but buy when it makes sense. So for my client Bryant Johnson, he just got traded from Arizona to San Francisco for a one-year deal for $2 million; it is not beneficial for him to buy a 1300 square foot house that's going to be $700,000 in the Bay Area. That's just stupid. So we helped him find a rental that made sense. So a lot of it is just relationship establishing; teaching them when to do certain things. Now really what I do, it's a lot more education than it is just real estate. A lot of what we do is teach the guys, "Hey, let's get you into a cash flow position." Where maybe you own an apartment building and that apartment building is bringing you $10,000 a month. So now you're living on your cash flow instead of on your game check. Then your game check can be given to your financial advisor and invested in for your long term gains because your short term gains are already happening with your real estate cash flow. So that, in kind of a nutshell is what we do at Team Investment Inc.

What mistakes do you see rookies make with their money?

Well, when you go from having nothing to having something, you don't realize that a million dollars is still not a lot of money. So you think you can do everything on that first contract, and really we have to slow the guys down a little bit and teach them, "Look you need to invest right so that in the long run you can do any and everything you want." Because it's just not about having money for you. It's about having money, I call it generational wealth, but having money for your kids' kids. It's about investing the money that you've made now, correctly, so that when you do get done playing, you can do whatever you want; whether it's to run a business or not, it doesn't matter, because you've invested properly. So I think [a key] is really teaching them to slow down, maybe not buy the four cars and the four houses and all the jewelry and give all your friends money and really think about, ok, I have a million dollars, which after taxes is $500,000. How do I manage this $500,000 properly so I can do the things I want to do in the long run?

Do you give advice to athletes who want to start their own business or do something silly like launch a record label?

Absolutely we do. So much of that happens and you know, again, once you get to that point in your career where you can do anything you want, if you want to trick off $100,000, then that's on you. But when you're first starting out, it really is, "no you can't do that, and you really need to do certain things that are going to bring you in money to make you that money." So yes we definitely do. And the nice things about my relationships are I really create that friendship with the guys. Being a former professional athlete and knowing what they go through and being able to relate and establish that friendship, for me is crucial. So a lot of times they'll come to me for advice that they wouldn't go to their financial advisor for. Because they know I'm going to be nonjudgmental, they know I'm have my own; They know that I can look at their stuff and say, you know, you really shouldn't be doing this, you should be doing this. So I do a lot of consulting pro bono just because they're my friends.

It may be bit of old news, but apparently Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade has been hanging out quite a bit with Star Jones and according to several gossip sites, it's been going on for a minute.
